This the wrong place to die was an exhibition for The Wrong Biennale No 5. We’ve been living with social media dread for quite a while. In a 2018 leaked memo, a Facebook executive said, “We connect people. Period… maybe it costs someone a life by exposing someone to bullies. Maybe someone dies in a terrorist attack coordinated on our tools”. If death is a corporate strategy, then rebirth through art is a necessity. This the wrong place to die is an online exhibition that memorializes such transformations — how artists screenshot, film, troll, doula, exercise, code, glitch, and ultimately wrong their way through a web 2.0 landscape that still, today, is encoded with a death drive.
